Rudie A Gwan
Rob is home
after a dash through Europe as substitute keyboardist for Eastern
Standard Time's 'Tempus Fugit' tour. The tour hit Germany, France,
Spain, Switzerland, and Austria with 22 shows in 25 days. You

Bass, Guitar and Trumpet Auditions
Because we can't
be sure how long Al will be on the 'injured reserve' list, we need
to arrange for at least a long-term substitute Bassist. We are fortunate
to have Joey Butler workting on a temporary basis, but his schedule
is such that we will need to find someone to replace him before
much longer.
John is also spending a lot of time on the road with another project,
so we need to put someone into the Second Guitarist slot to cover
his parts.
While we're banging the arrangements together with new members we've
decided to search in earnest for the Trumpet Player we've always
intended to add.
As a result, we will be conducting auditions for these positions
through the months of November and December.
While previous experience in traditional Jamaican styles is not
a must, it certainly weighs in your favor. You should live in the
Middle Tennessee area (we have members scattered throughout Nashville
and Murfreesboro), and have a schedule flexible enough to allow
for Sunday rehearsals, weekend performances and the occasional weeknight
local gig. Money ranges from paltry to mediocre, so you should have
some other way to support yourself financially.
If you are interested in any of these positions, please give us
a shout at auditions@akarudie.com.-

MAN DOWN!!
We regret to
report that Bassist Al Shropshire will be taking an extended leave
of absence to deal with a serious set of medical complications.
We hope that Al will be back in the line-up before too long, but
in the mean time, we will be calling upon the services of good and
talented friends while we conduct auditions. Look for Johnny McMahon
from Las Cabriolas to fill in for the September 4 show at Windows.
Joey Butler from FatGnat will cover the spot thereafter until we
have a better idea of how long Al will be gone.
Please keep our buddy Al in your thoughts and prayers...

REST IN PEACE
Ground-breaking
producer and pioneer of the signature Jamaican styles from Mento
to Dance Hall, Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd passed away after suffering
a massive heart attack in Kingston, Jamaica this afternoon. His
influence on our music is as impossible to measure as his contribution
to Jamaican musical culture. His genius defined and refined some
of the most revolutionary music of the twentieth century, and we
may never see his equal. Read

FREE SHOW MAY 1st
Wanted to hip
you to what's going on at Windows on the Cumberland on the First
Saturday in May (May 1). This also kind of illustrates what a good
guy Boots Hill (owner) can be.
April 30 and May 1 are the dates for the Riverstages Music Festival
down in Riverfront Park, immediately below the famous windows. Boots
has upped the age requirement to 21 (due to the amount of walk-in
traffic he gets), but check this out. If you are a regular at our
shows (and under 21) he wants you to come on up anyway. Danielle
will probably be working the door, and all you have to do is mention
that Boots had said it was cool for our underage regulars to come
on out. She probably knows most of you anyway, and won't give you
any greif to begin with.
And get this... NO COVER CHARGE.
Please be extra cool to Boots, Ross and Danielle, because that is
going to be one LOOOONNNGGGG weekend for them.
Hope we'll see you there!

Tax Day News Round Up
Thanks to everyone
who made the TN Ska Weekend so memorable! It was a great chance
to meet a lot of new people and to renew old acquaintences. You've
never seen 17 bands work together so seamlessly - it was amazing.
Special K pointed out that we hadn't added any new pics in
a while, so you can thank him for the new
photo sets and flier art.
April 3rd saw the debut of the Southern Ska All Stars. We
tested the maximum density of the stage at Windows, and were almost
able to fit all the members of Las Cabriolas and a.k.a:RUDIE into
all the nooks and crannies. You won't want to miss the massive trad
vibes when we reunite in July.
Look for us at Lamar's in Chattanooga as we join Milele Roots
and The Zion Project for Reggae Sound Clash 2004!
The Summer is going to be hotter than ever, because The Singers
ATX are bringing the heat up from Texas with their incendiary traditional
sound. We'll forego the First Saturday Gig in August to fit this
in on Wednesday, August 4.

Overdue Updates!!
There's an awful
lot to catch up on so you're way overdue for some news!
1. MONSTER SHOWS - Thanks to everyone who supported our recent shows
with Westbound Train, Deal's Gone Bad, The Ska Mob Tour and Las
Cabriolas. All the bands have commented on how enthusiastic the
scene is in Middle TN, and they are always eager to make Gnashville
a regular stop!
2. TN SKA WEEKEND 2004 - April 10 will find us in Knoxville's Market
Square for TN Ska Weekend 2004. Join us for 16 bands, great food
and even better company. Brace yourselves for a few surprises...
In a GOOD way...
3. NEW STUFF - As we begin to prepare for our next trip into the
studio, you can look forward to hearing some new stuff creep into
the sets. Stand by for more on this...
4. ALL AGES!?!? - We will be doing some shows at Radio Cafe that
are available to all ages as long as everyone acts responsibly.
Check the schedule column for dates and times.
See you at the shows!

Holiday Shows
Check out the
schedule for a list of the holiday gigs you can catch in Nashville
around New Years. You won't want to miss the show with our good
friends from Boston - Westbound
Train. Hopefully, you'll have some time off over the holidays
to make some of these weeknight shows. New Years Eve at Windows
on the Cumberland is going to be as wild as ever, although it
is unfortunately bumped up to 21 and over. We'll be doing an early
set at 10:00, then The
Loft will do a set, and then we'll do another set after midnight
- so we'll actually have a chance to party with some of you for
a change!!! Come ring in 2004 with us in our home club!

TENTH ANNIVERSARY SHOW
October 2003
marks the TENTH ANNIVERSARY for a.k.a:RUDIE, and SIX YEARS of 'First
Saturday Gigs' at Windows on the Cumberland. Come down and check
out the show on Saturday, Oct. 4 as we unveil some new material,
and listen for songs that haven't seen the stage since the earliest
gigs.
First 10 people through the door receive a copy of 'Live Inna Windows',
and we will be giving away t-shirts, buttons and stickers throughout
the night.

Mass. Hysteria
Look for Boston
Trad-merchants Mass.
Hysteria to open for us on Wednesday, August 20 at Windows.
Their new CD, 'Waiting for the Day' is getting excellent notices,
and the dub supplement EP 'Waiting For The Dub' got the master's
touch from dub-genius Victor Rice. Since this is a week-night show,
we'll be kicking things off a little early so you can still roll
out for work (or not) on Thursday.

Last Minute Addition
Miami Ska / Punkers
Bum RucKus had a last minute cancellation on their tour, so we plugged
them into the line-up for Saturday night at Windows. Come out a
little early, because these kids will kick it right at 10PM... The
REAL 10 o'clock, not the a.k.a:RUDIE one...

Deal's Gone Bad
One of the very
positive results of our recent roadwork has been the opportunity
to reconnect with the national Ska scene. At the Chicago gig we
had the chance to swap some gigs with infamous Pirate Ska band
Deal's
Gone Bad, so they will be joining us for the CD Release
party on June 7. Check these guys out for some really hot Ska and
Skinhead Reggae.

No 'First Saturday Gig' in July
In order to allow
our inevitable fireworks accident injuries to heal properly, we
will be skipping the usual 'First Saturday Gig' that would fall
on July 5th. Instead, we will play on the 'Second Saturday', July
12th. Don't miss this one, because our friends in Westbound
Train will be sharing the stage with us that night. Come
congratulate them on their recent signing to Megalith Records!

Worldwide Ska Compilation
Almost two years
ago we were contacted by the former 'Perry Pages' website regarding
a compilation CD they were assembling. Well, after many tribulations,
a name-change and relocation from the UK to Germany, 'Fat, Thin
and Bald Promotions' has finally released their 'World Wide Ska
Compilation, Volume One', featuring 19 cuts from 15 bands! We landed
two songs on the effort - 'Trouble Clef' and 'Dance Hall Ruler'.
You can either pick up a copy from their website,
or get one from us once they arrive.
